For Students: Common Issues and How to Troubleshoot Them

If you’ve completed an activity and no grade appears in the gradebook:

Your browser is probably blocking third-party cookies, which are needed for your grade to be updated. Try switching to a different browser or allowing third-party cookies before reloading and reattempting the activity.

Note: Grades will not be recorded if you attempt the assignment on the public web (i.e. outside your course). In order for grades to be updated, you should always launch assignments directly from the links in your course.

 

If you see a grade in the gradebook, but it doesn’t look correct:

  1. For multipart activities (like quizzes or interactive videos with multiple questions), make sure you click the Finish or Submit Answers button at the end of the activity.

  2. If that doesn’t help, look for a link in your course called Pressbooks Results Viewer and click it (if you don’t see this link, talk to your instructor).
  3. Click the dropdown menu and select the assignment where the grade looked wrong (Lição 1 in the screenshot below). Each column displays your current score for each individual activity based on the grading scheme your instructor has chosen for the assignment (e.g. best attempt, average attempt, first attempt). If you see a ‘-’ symbol, this means that you have no score recorded for that activity. Check with your instructor if you’re unsure what grading scheme is being used for the assignment.
  4. Relaunch the assignment and reattempt any activities for which your score appears incorrect. Your grade will be updated after each attempt based on the grading scheme your instructor has chosen for that assignment. You do not need to reattempt activities for which you are satisfied with your existing score.

If you’ve tried the steps above but your grade still doesn’t look right, contact your instructor and let them know about the problem you’re having. Please include the following information:

  • your name and email address
  • the name of the assignment (Pressbooks chapter) you’ve been having problems with
  • the specific activity where the grades have not been updated as expected (if known)
  • the approximate time and date of the attempts made
  • the browser and operating system you used during the attempt
  • any screenshots or videos which demonstrate the problem
